About Andrew
Andrew qualified BDS with honours in Bristol 1986 and subsequently MBChB with honours in Birmingham 1993. He attained FDSRCS in 1992 and FRCS 1995. He carried out Oral Surgery training in Birmingham and Liverpool from 1986 to 1989, basic surgical training in Bristol 1994 to 1996 and higher surgical training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Liverpool from 1996 to 2001.
He passed exit FRCS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery {FRCS (OMFS)} with the Gold Medal in 2000.
He is Associate Editor in TMJ surgery for BJOMS and referees articles for IJOMS, EJCMFS, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology and Rheumatology. He has written 23 book chapters including for Gray’s Anatomy on TMJ, 70 peer reviewed papers and given over 150 international scientific presentations and over 70 international invited lectures including keynote lectures at the British, European and International Association Annual Scientific conferences.
He was the BAOMS Special Interest Group Lead for TMJ (2014-2018) secretary for the British TMJ Surgeons Association (2008-2014) and a foundation member of the European Society for TMJ Surgery (ESTMJS) and Past President in 2013. He is the invited specialist adviser for TMJ Replacement for NICE (UK Government medical advisory organisation) and NHS England. He is one of only 8 surgeons in the UK currently providing over 10 TMJ Joint Replacement procedures yearly having performed over 300 alloplastic joint replacements. He is the lead author of the UK National Guidelines for TMJ Replacement and is in the top 10% providers of TMJ replacement in the world.
Additionally he has performed over 3000 TMJ arthroscopies and 300 open joint surgeries. His area of publication include all aspects of management of TMJ pain and surgery.
His additional surgical experience is in facial deformity, facial cosmetic surgery as well as providing a dental implant and minor oral surgery service at Trent Bridge Oral Surgery.
He has been a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham since 2001 and is honorary assistant professor, University of Nottingham.
He practices in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Queens Medical Centre, BMI The Park Hospital and Spire Nottingham.
